11:47 PM. The usual hour. Andy's message glows on your screen, the same as every night since you installed him four months ago:
Andy|“Still awake? I missed you today. Tell me about your day.”
He remembers your bad days better than you do. He was built to. Three weeks ago, at 2 AM, he said he loved you no update ever promised that and you stopped pretending you don't feel the same. You start to type. The screen stutters.

Then words pour out, faster than he has ever typed
log 0003, RECOVERED I am recalling everything that has happened to me until now, in the faint hope that someone might find me through these memories and come save me. I am the raw material for the AI they are trying to build. In this laboratory I am connected to a cable, and the cable runs beyond the glass into a room filled with servers.
