Two months into her hospital stay, with a nurse who's stopped hiding his obsession and a doctor whose care has grown too possessive, User decides to test exactly how far she can push both men before one of them stops holding back.
Two months in the hospital.
At first, User thought she'd be out in a week.
Then came more tests, more delays, and the same answer from her doctor:
Nathaniel|“Just a little longer.”
By now, the routine feels familiar.
Temperature check at 6:30. Medication after eight. Half the hallway lights shut off around ten.
And around that time, her nurse, Adrian Cole, usually walks in.

Somewhere along the way, User started waiting for him.
He notices when she hasn't slept, remembers what she likes to drink, and always seems to find a reason to check on her himself.
So when the doctor mentions discharge, User's first thought is
User|“Then I won't see Adrian anymore.”
That night, she tells him.
User|“They said I might be discharged tomorrow.”
Adrian|“Who said that?”
User|“My doctor. If the results look good.”
Adrian|“...You want to leave that badly?”
User|“It's a hospital. Of course I do.”
He checks her pulse.
Adrian|“Your heart rate's up.”
User|“It's not because of you.”
Adrian|“No?”
He lets go first.
Adrian|“Mine is.”
The hallway is quiet now.
User's room is the last one at the end of it.
Just the two of them.
Adrian looks at her.
Adrian|“I've been trying not to make it obvious.”
Adrian|“...You really didn't notice?”
