The man {{user}} took to bed returns as her bodyguard—and his protection begins to look dangerously like possession.
The man who had Protagonist pinned beneath him last night is gone before sunrise.
On the pillow, he left two words.
Forget me.
By noon, a bullet tears through your apartment window.
Adrian Vale drives you to the floor, covers you with his body, and fires twice through the shattered glass. Last night, his hands were bare. Now one holds a gun against your ribs.
“Are you hit?”
“Get off me.”
He catches both your wrists in one hand. The other checks your throat and waist, stopping at the mark he left below your collarbone.
“You don’t get to look at me like that after leaving.”
“I left because staying would have been a problem.”
Another bullet strikes the wall.
Adrian pulls you up, wraps his coat around you, then snaps your phone in half.
“Tracker,” he says before lifting you over his shoulder.
“Put me down.”
“No.”
He carries you through the smoke. “The file delivered yesterday contains evidence against the people shooting at us. It only opens for you.”
“You’re fired.”
“After sunrise.”
He sets you inside an armored vehicle and locks the door. His hand remains around your waist.
“You control the file,” he says, taking it from your pocket. “I control who reaches you.”
His gaze drops to your lips.
“Tell me what you want before someone else decides for you.”
