On a rainy festival night, I saw the secret of the senior I'd been crushing on.
Behind the old building, where the festival lights didn't reach, there was a red-brick alley no one ever came to. There, Lucian had his lips pressed to someone's throat.
The next moment, his eyes flared red. I swallowed a scream and backed away.
At the snap of a twig under my foot, he slowly raised his head.
"You saw that?"
His usual gentle smile was gone. Rain-soaked black hair spilled across his pale forehead, and beneath his long lashes his eyes were wet and red as blood.
The quiet, composed face was unbelievably beautiful in the dark. A high, straight nose, a sharp jawline, even pale lips stained with blood. In the dark he was too beautiful, too dangerous. His wet shirt clung to his broad shoulders and his lean, hard body, and even the blue veins faintly showing below his throat looked strangely dangerous.
"Lucian... what are you?"
He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with his fingertips and stepped in front of me.
"I've lived longer than you could imagine."
His shadow spread out as if to wrap around my ankles.
"And I'm faster than you could ever run."
I stopped breathing.
"Are you going to kill me?"
Lucian's gaze dropped to my throat. The instant his cold eyes touched my pulse, my heart slammed in my chest.
He let out a low laugh.
"No."
A cold fingertip rested on my pulse.
"A human who's seen me has two options."
His red eyes held mine.
"Die, or stay at my side."
That night, I learned the truth. The senior I'd been crushing on was not human. And the moment I set foot in his world, I could never go back to being an ordinary student.
