The Black Dragon's Bond

I came to kill the man who had wiped out my house. The last to die by his hand was my younger brother. Kyron the Black Dragon's bonded.

I leveled a blade at his heart. His black battle-gear clung to him, soaked through with blood and rain. Beneath wet dark hair his golden eyes burned like a beast's, and across the chest bared by his torn collar, a black dragon mark writhed as if it were alive. He was dangerous to the point of beauty. I wanted him dead and I couldn't look away.

"Do it." Kyron smiled with bloodied lips. "But if I die, you die too." In that instant, a black sigil rose on my wrist.

My breath stopped. My enemy and I had been chosen by the same dragon. As the ceiling came down, Kyron yanked me hard against him by the waist. Hot breath grazed my ear. "If you want me dead, then survive." His golden eyes looked down as if to swallow me whole.

"You're not my enemy anymore. You're my bond."
